"Be the change you wish to see in the world."I love this quote. In one short sentence, Gandhi has highlighted that change requires personal action. My personal wish is for the world become a more connected, open and kinder place and in order for this to happen I must endeavour to challenge myself to be that way too.
Desmond Tutu once said,
"Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."Effectively, if more people participate in committing acts of kindness and this kindness spreads, the world is likely to become a better place to live. Collectively, people can make a difference and bring about change in the world.
The challenge I have set myself: to complete an act of kindness each day for six months. These will be small acts such as encouraging someone, treating a friend, buying a stranger a coffee; all done without any expectation of reward. I will then take on a second challenge and this will involve completing a difficult act of kindness every week for the remaining six months. The second challenge is to attempt to push me out of my comfort zone and engage me in completing acts of kindness that I will find difficult such as giving away something that is of great value to me or organising a large fundraiser.
Aesop once said,
"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."So let's get to it ....
