Time To Talk Day

Day 34

Today is the day to talk about mental health. Over the last week I have been promoting Time To Change's latest campaign which is going to attempt to get people talking about mental health today. They are aiming for a million conversations. I hope to be part of that. It is the first time Time To Change have embarked on a campaign like this but I am really glad they have done so, it is so very important. Mental health problems are common, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem each year. The reality is we all have mental and physical health and all of us could get mentally or physically unwell at any time. This is why the shame, ignorance and stigma that surrounds mental health is so damaging and prevents people talking about their mental health and getting the right help. You may ask, how is talking about mental health today a kind act? Well, if more people talk openly about mental health people close to them will feel able to talk about their mental health issues but also as a collective we will go way to reducing the ignorance and stigma that surrounds being mentally unwell so that in the future people will treat people mentally unwell in the same way as those with a physical problem. Well that's my hope anyway.
