Campaign From Home

Day 94

I am having a day at home today so I decided to campaign on behalf of a few important causes.

Firstly, I signed Fair trade's petition about making the price of banana's fair. The low price of bananas is trapping the farmer's that produce them in poverty.

Secondly, I emailed Iain Duncan Smith through Shelter to ask that he ensures that those that fall on hard times such as getting ill or loosing a job do not end up losing their homes too. We definitely need a safety net!

Finally, I emailed our local MP through Mind to ask him to raise the issue of access to psychological therapies. Research completed by Mind found that 1 in 10 people waited over a year to access psychological therapies and over half of those asked waited more than three months. Furthermore, 3 in 5 people were not offered a choice in the type of therapy they were offered and different therapies work for different people. This is too long for people in mental distress. The petition calls for a maximum waiting time of 28 days from the point of referral.

It may not seem a lot to action these things from home but collective concern and the more people who raise the issue starts the process of change.
