I was pointed in the direction last month to an article in the Independent by a lovely lady called Kathryn who writes the fantastic blog Second-Hand Tales. I remembered this article as I was talking about random acts of kindness today.
Basically, the article was written around the time that the UN was meeting to discuss the ways in which Governments measure economic progress. Many researchers feel that although the GDP is a good measure of economic progress, there may be other non-conventional indicators that can reflect the progress of a country. They feel that GDP does not reflect social and environmental measures of wealth and cites things such as availability of cheap eye glasses to the level of random acts of kindness in a society. New research indicates that people are valuing non-material wealth just as highly.
It is amazing that people are starting to see the importance of random acts of kindness in society and value non-material things.
Thank you for the name check! When I read the article I immediately thought of you.
