Feed Someone Who Is Hungry

Day 172

Bought a person, rummaging in the bins, some food.

I was in Bristol today getting some last minute bits for our trip to Marrakech tomorrow and I saw a man rummaging through a bin and in a poor state of health. My heart sank and in situations like these I cannot walk past without doing something. I walked up and asked him if he needed food and he told me he did. He seemed aware of where to get food in Bristol but it was boiling hot today and he seemed to have some difficulty walking about. I wanted to talk for longer but I needed to be back. I went and bought him some lunch at the nearest shop. It didn't seem enough but I am almost certain he will be known to outreach teams in Bristol and this I can check.

  1. This is such a kind act. I never know what to do when I see someone in this situation. The easiest thing is to walk past and act like they're not there, or maybe give them some money but not engage in conversation. I really think it's a social taboo to give money/food/time to talk to someone in need on the streets. I wish more people (including myself) were like you.
