Stand For Something

Day 154

I have just been sent an email about an Amnesty International campaign that has struck a chord with me. The UK is an amazing place to live and in reality we are very free to be who we are and for that I am grateful.

Basically, a woman in Sudan has been sentenced to death for becoming a Christian and has also received a punishment for marrying a Christian. She refused to renounce her Christian faith and follow Islam and as a consequence a court in the Sudan charged her with apostasy and her punishment will be death by hanging. They have also charged her with adultery for being married to a Christian, which is considered to be adultery, and she will receive 100 lashes. She was heavily pregnant when she was imprisoned and was forced to give birth in chains. She is still in prison with her new-born baby and her 20 month old son.

Amnesty is asking us to take action and apply pressure to the authorities in the Sudan for the charges against this woman to be dropped and for her to be released to gain the support of her family; she has done no wrong at all. The most encouraging thing I read was that most people that have been charged with this crime have had their sentences dropped. A small action really does help change lives..

This is the amazing art work of Dina. I have contacted her to say how amazing she is. See here for her work.
